Acne is your body’s response to clogged hair follicles. Your hair follicles are also connected to your skin’s oil glands and allow oil, dead skin cells, bacteria, and other microscopic particles to exit your skin.
When those follicles become clogged, nothing can exit. Your body responds with inflammation, which causes the red spots associated with acne.
Several factors can aggravate or trigger an acne outbreak, including:
- Hormonal fluctuations
- Excessive stress
- Dietary choices
- Certain medications
There are many myths surrounding acne, including the idea that wearing cosmetics and eating greasy foods will lead to breakouts. Research has largely debunked these myths.
A properly-formulated chemical peel is a great way to treat acne. At Rapid Laser Med Spa, clients have access to VI PeelⓇ, an innovative product that combines five different acids for optimal results.
The first step is the in-office application of the peel. Some clients experience minor tingling or stinging sensations during the application, but the peel quickly numbs your skin, and your aesthetician uses cold air to lessen these sensations.
Next, your aesthetician cleanses your face and neck and applies special post-treatment moisturizers to soothe your skin. In the next few days, your skin may feel tight and appear slightly red or tan.
The peeling process begins around three days after your treatment as your skin sheds its outer layers. By the seventh day, peeling should cease, and you can enjoy your VI Peel’s full results. Depending on your skin’s condition, you may require up to two additional peels over the following months.
SkinMedica®, SkinCeuticals®, and GlyMed® peels are also available at Rapid Laser Med Spa. Your aesthetician can advise you on which of these powerful peels is right for you.
